Building your little one's confidence is crucial, especially when it comes to grooming. As a qualified IMDT approved puppy instructor, I'm not just a groomer—I'm equipped with a fountain of knowledge when it comes to starting puppies and setting the stage for your dog's future.
WHEN TO BRING MY PUPPY.. I highly encourage owners to bring their puppies to the groomers soon after the pup has had their 2nd vaccination. This timing allows us to start building your puppy's confidence while ensuring their safety and well-being.
I offer a FREE meet and greet session, where we can let your puppy explore/familiarise themselves with the environment, noises, smells, sights etc
In this short session I can answer any questions, talk about handling techniques, reccomended tools for your dogs coat type, grooming requirements, styles etc..
Evidence shows that it takes approximately 3 sessions to acclimatize a puppy to a grooming environment. I will then suggest a unique plan for building your pup up to a full groom.
Sessions are deliberately kept short to help build confidence and may include:
-Free Meet & Greet
-Puppy play session
-Dry Tidy Trim
-Bath & Dry
And eventually a full groom once pup is ready.
PREPARING YOUR PUPPY AT HOME:
- lots of handling all over.
-stroking your puppy with brushes
-gently stroking a spoon around puppies face
-get used to puppy being touched under the chin
-running an electric toothbrush over puppies body
-introduce to bath and water
-lifting your puppy onto a table or higher surface
-have the puppy get used to hoover and hairdryer noises in the house
- have puppy used to collar or something similar around the neck
-handle between paw pads/toes
ensuring all experiences are positive, lots of reward, praise, treats, using a licky matt, or toys to make experience more fun an enjoyable.
